Born and raised in Woodinville, WA; land of wine, wine and more wine. I attended the University of Washington, where I studied communications with an emphasis in public relations.
After college, I had an array of social media and marketing roles in the corporate world where I learned so much but always felt something was missing.
After being laid off a number of times, I was tired of constantly feeling like companies held my career in their hands. I jokingly said to my mom, “If I get laid off one more time, I’m going to beauty school!” She hated the idea so naturally, I enrolled the next week.
Doing my own nails had always been a hobby of mine after I discovered shellac and gel polishes in 2010. After 5 months, I graduated from the nail program at Evergreen Beauty College in November 2017. On December 9, 2017, I launched my own business under the name Beauty by Kara, working out of Wetherholt Salon and Spa in Greenlake. I rebranded to She Handsy at the start of 2020. When Covid shut things down in March 2020, I had to pivot. When I was able to return to business in June 2020, I reopened in my own private space providing my client with an elevated salon experience.
On a personal level…
I currently live in Greenlake, Seattle; where I take advantage of the outdoors as much as possible. The Greenlake loop is perfect for running or if I’m lazy, walking my dog, Thor, a 12-pound (on a fat day) Jack Russell/Shih Tzu. I stay active by doing small group workout classes like spin, HIIT, boot camp, Tabata, barre, pilates, and yoga. And of course, I make sure to enjoy the beautiful Pacific Northwest by paddle boarding, hiking, backpacking, cycling and barbecuing.
